Highlights
I'm introducing the TECHXponential™ Signal to help you cut through the deafening noise of the global food industry.
- The Signal Badge: represents a filter for Industry Leaders; it identifies information that has the power to disrupt entire global systems rather than just shifting local markets.
- The 11 Billion Entities Metric: is our north star; we must find ways to healthily, fairly and sustainably nourish 9.7 billion humans and 1.3 billion pet cats and dogs by the year 2050.
- The Three Core Criteria: define a TECHXponential™ Signal; it must represent a structural shift, have massive scalable potential, and directly impact global and/or local food consumption.
- Future-Proofing Your Strategy: requires looking beyond the immediate horizon; I believe that focusing on these signals is the only way to lead with confidence in an era of rapid disruption.
- High-Signal Content: is my promise to you; I want to ensure that every minute you spend reading my TECHXponential™ Signal insights translates into actionable strategic value for you and your organisation.
The global food industry is currently drowning in noise. Between the relentless buzz of social media trends and the constant flood of incremental product launches, it's become nearly impossible for leaders to identify what actually matters for the long term. I believe that for Leaders, including Boards and C-suite executives, the most valuable asset isn't just information; it's the ability to distinguish a distraction from a true signal and decide what it means.
This is why I've launched the TECHXponential™ Signal. When you see this badge at the top of my articles, you're looking at more than just a trend report. You're looking at a deep-dive analysis of a technology or shift that has met a rigorous set of criteria designed to identify signals of a coming systemic disruption.
Why We Need a New Filter
Most industry news focuses on the "next big thing" in a way that is often reactive. But true leadership requires a proactive, macro-perspective. I want to look instead at the structural changes that will redefine how we feed our world. We are heading toward a 2050 horizon where we must sustain 9.7 billion humans. However, I believe we need to think even bigger.
When I talk about future demand, I use the "11 billion entities" metric. This accounts for 9.7 billion people and the 1.3 billion pet cats and dogs that are increasingly becoming integral parts of the global food system. Feeding 11 billion entities in 2050 requires a scale of production that current systems simply can't match. This is where the TECHXponential™ Signal comes in.
The Three Criteria of a Signal
For a topic to earn the TECHXponential™ Signal badge, it must satisfy three specific requirements;
- Structural Shift: It can't just be a better version of an existing situation; it must represent a fundamental change in how we produce, distribute, or consume food.
- Scalable Potential: The technology must have a pathway to reach global scale, impacting billions of lives and generating valuations in the hundreds of billions of USD.
- Feeding 11 Billion: It must represent a fundamental consumer change and/or contribute directly to solving the challenge of nourishing our 2050 population of humans and pets.
I've spent over 35 years as a food scientist, and I've seen how quickly "impossible" technologies become the new standard.
As I say:
"Today's reality was yesterday's science fiction!"
Whether it's new food technologies or reimagining our ultimate future, the goal is clarity.
I believe that those who ignore these signals will find themselves managing legacy systems in a world that's already moved on. By focusing on high-signal content, I help you prepare your organisation for the exponential shifts that are already underway.
